The Police condemns the undue brutality in the viral video. However, call on the media to be circumspect in its reportage, cross check facts and stop unwarranted attacks on the entire Police Service at the least opportunity. The person seen assaulting the victim is not a Police officer but a city guard whose action prompted the swift intervention of the Police woman in the video.
Our media partner, Joy Fm devoted part of its entire morning show on this video denigrating the police, BUT when the clarification was made they did not retract the demonization. I think professional and balanced reportage is imminent, as consistent efforts to bring down the institution may be catastrophic. If Joy Fm admits that those involved in the assault are not police officers, we demand that honour. Failure to do so may mean evil machinations against the police.
We are gullible as humans but for this show, we in the police are disappointed. In as much as we welcome criticisms, the media should not see it as a weakness.
